5 REASONS WHY TRANSITIONING OUT OF THE SERVICE IS DIFFICULT FOR WOMEN

1. Unique Experiences: Women in the military often have unique experiences that can differ from our male counterparts. Navigating a traditionally male-dominated environment and the specific roles we play can make the transition process more intricate.

2. Identity Shifts: Serving in the military is not just a job; it becomes part of our identity. Transitioning requires a shift in how we perceive ourselves and how the world perceives us. This process of identity redefinition can be especially challenging.

3. Balancing Roles: Many of us juggle military service with familial roles. Transitioning means not only adapting to civilian life but also recalibrating our roles as mothers, daughters, and partners. Finding this balance is no small feat.

4. Lack of Recognition: Women veterans sometimes face a lack of recognition for their service. This oversight can contribute to feelings of isolation and make it harder to connect with support networks during the transition.

5. Access to Resources: Accessing resources tailored to the needs of women veterans is crucial. From healthcare to career development, ensuring that these services address our unique challenges is essential for a smoother transition.

In navigating these challenges, it's important to recognize that support is available. Remember, you are not alone in this journey. As women veterans, we bring a wealth of resilience, strength, and adaptability to the table. Let's embrace this new chapter together, supporting one another every step of the way.

VA CLAIMS CORNER

Many times, veterans are hesitant to file or refile for the VA Disability Claim they deserve from a feeling of unworthiness. If you are NOT working towards your VA claim (that you deserve), it can actually cost you money in the long run!

One soldier who finished their enlistment in 2009 and filed for disability for the first time got a bad C&P (Compensation & Pension) exam and a 10% rating, despite having strong medical evidence in his active duty military records. He assumed that that was just the way it was. He didn’t know how underrated he was or what his VA disabilities were worth. He just took his 10% with a sinking feeling that he had just been screwed.

Later, when he had a routine re-evaluation of his disabilities, the C&P examiner made it clear that he was underrated, and the dismissive attitude of the original C&P examiner left him feeling like the VA just didn’t care and that there was nothing anyone could do against the bureaucracy.

In the end, he got his VA disability rating adjusted, and realized the value of his claim to be $24,000 a year in additional income.

Disability Myths about your VA Claim

Many people feel ashamed to talk about their disabilities, and many more feel uncomfortable talking about the money their claims are worth if they got them right.

Disabilities compensation is not a handout, it is an earned benefit that you are entitled to due to your service to the country. It’s standing up for what you already earned and are rightfully entitled to.

Today’s VA Claim

With social security and pensions combined the average American only receives ≈ $24,000 annually in retirement. A 90% rating could literally double your income in retirement. That’s life-changing for you and your family.

Getting your VA rating right could be the best investment you ever make. It could also cost you (no exaggeration) hundreds of thousands of dollars if you don’t get it right.
